Cowan was born in North Dakota and moved to Orting, Washington with his family in 1970. His decision to become a chiropractor was made when he was injured playing high school football and was treated by a chiropractic physician and was amazed at the effectiveness of his treatment.Lee P. Cowan completed his undergraduate studies at Green River and Whitman College in Washington State.
