A lifelong Santa Barbara County resident, James Neary attended local Santa Barbara schools, graduating from San Marcos High School. Only after attending UCSB with a major in physiology, did he decide to pursue a degree in Chiropractic. James Neary transferred to the Prestigious Palmer College of Chiropractic West (PCC-W) in San Jose, California where he graduated in 1988.
